The Padstow Art Group

 

A Short History.

 

 

The Padstow Art Group was formed back in 1978 by Bill Lindsey, senior boat builder and wood carver; Jim Lennon, artist; Derek and Wendy Lindsey and a few others.

The formation of this group known then as the "Padstow Arts and Crafts" was an idea to find local talents from Padstow.

We started with wood carving, sewing, knitting, cake making and decoration. Art came from an idea of my wife, who asked Jim if he would be so kind as to help people paint. The following week several of us turned up with brushes and paper at the ready. Soon an art class was under way.

Exhibitions at that time were ofter held in the Memorial Hall, Padstow Church and the St.Merryn Chapel Hall. The group moved to St.Merryn whilst work was ongoing in the Memorial Hall, and soon we were back in Padstow and growing with our new name "Padstow Art Group".
